Flight got in late. The valet was almost useless. The young man at the indoor podium was not helpful in any way with our bags, info, communication. All bad. New front desk employee didn't know how to check us in. The other fellow (old guy) didn't make it to the desk for 5 minutes or so. We dragged our own bags in and left the car out front. The bellman/valet just looked down at his podium and I had to coax him to communicate and help us. The old guy front desk fellow got us checked in, but no smile, greeting or very much communication at all. We eventually figured it all out, but the initial impression was terrible. It got much better thereafter. Great room. Absolutely beautiful lobby and surrounding areas. I personally loved the billiard room and we loved the historical tidbits throughout. Bridgemans was excellent service and cuisine. Generous portions and with today's pricing, you don't feel like you were devalued. Richie was extremely personable and knowledgeable and did a wonderful job. Daytime valet, although a bit unresponsive at times, were much better than the night fellow. If I may add, the large valet crew were not helpful with people's bags at all in our observations, including our own. Not sure if they are instructed to not help people or not, but not a plus. We watched an old couple struggle with a bellman's cart full of bags and I jumped in to help while I waited for our car. There were 2 valet guys there and they did nothing. And they are not understaffed, just unattentive and lazy. Beyond the valet crew, our stay was excellent.
